Home!

We packed up and tidied the house on Friday and said fond farewells. Maybe next year might see the long awaited and twice postponed walking holiday in Greece. Absit Omen! (It means touch wood, and we discovered this because it was the answer to a crossword clue!)

It was a drizzley and sometimes rainy journey back to Kendal. The spray on the M61 was unpleasant. But it was dry when I got back. Dry and warm outside, but cold inside and I did put some heat on for a while.

Sam and Lucy were taking Joe to university in Southampton in the afternoon, and I received photos of his student room From Lucy. It was on the top floor so they were quite tired after carrying everything up there! They had left him to unpack. I think he was keen to be left to get on with things. I was delighted to get an email from him this morning. One of the 7 occupants of his flat had arrived, also called Joe, and today the rest will come. I suspect some parents would have had problems getting petrol for the trip today. What a mess this country is in. Great long queues for petrol pumps because we don't have enough HGV drivers to bring the fuel to the forecourts.

Today I have mostly been going over and over my service. I met Richard at church to put the PowerPoint on the church computer and try out the music etc.

Tonight I have enjoyed watching Strictly, and then done a final read through, having put the whole thing onto cards that I can use as prompts. Don't want to read it! I do hope it goes well and is helpful to people. We can't shirk the issue (Climate Change is my theme) as a church, or as individuals, but gentle encouragement will be the order of the day tomorrow.

We caught the train via Edinburgh to Tweed Bank, and thence a taxi to Melrose. What a beautiful little town it is. It's a good thing I have no spare space in my suitcase, because there are some wonderful independent shops here!

We left our bags in our very nice little hotel which is in the centre of the town, and found somewhere for a soup and sandwich. Thence we did a tour of Melrose Abbey. Sadly they are doing a survey of it at the moment so there were fences up to prevent us walking into the centre, and the holy of holies. It was also raining pretty solidly. I suspect we will get rain on and off during our walk. Let's hope it is more on than off.

Meal in our hotel tonight.
