Hot day in Piazza Bra

Another delicious breakfast in the hotel. Then I accompanied Alexa to get post cards and stamps and a key ring in the Piazza. We then stopped for a refreshing cold drink and stayed there til it was lunch time! Another delicious salad! Keith was enjoying having some time to himself and he went to the museum. We took a walk around the Arena to see what we could find out at the tourist information. I had wondered about trying to take Alexa to Lake Garda for the day. We came away armed with information but it looks trickier than I had hoped. Only certain boats could take disabled passengers. We'll see.

Last night, we ate at the Piazza, and we were next to a large party seated at specially roped off tables. It turned out to be a farewell party to the opera team to celebrate the end of the season. I'm sure I recognised the conductor!

Today the cranes have been busy as a music awards ceremony kicks off tonight. I guess the glitterati will be out in force. Probably there will be people there I should recognise if I only inhabited that world! Anyway it has been a mammoth job to reset the arena!

Thank goodness As'sun operation has been successful. He is home today but still. Dry wiped out. He has a serious looking leg brace.

Last back to school pic came in today. Fyfe had had an extra inset day to wait before his school opens. They all look very smart and ready for the fray!

The sky is blue. I am in Kendal for a hair cut. I actually like my hairdresser, and it does feel nice to be 'treated'! She asks me about holidays of course, and we both express hesitation and doubt. Though actually I should be travelling to Germany in June to Oberammergau. A trip postponed now for 2 years. Who knows?

I do a bit of shopping in a cheerful Kendal. It is market day, though sadly the big fruit and veg stall never returned after covid lockdowns.

And then I go to the midday concert which is excellent. 6 string players from the Northern Sinfonia. The main work was a Brahms sextet, and it couldn't have been a nicer choice. Full of delightful tunes and subtle harmonies.

A bit of grocery shopping and I'm home in time to hear Boris's apology. I'm just a bit worried that we could do worse with a different leader from this party. Incredible thought, but true.

A day off driving for Don. We walked locally, had a late lunch and then I popped into town for a repeat prescription and to book my flu jab, and to pick up a few supplies. Once home I started to teach Fyfe how to play mah jong. We followed this with a good hour in the hot tub. Then we cooked tea, making the most of fresh veg Giles had given us...potatoes, broad beans and courgettes to go with the cooked ham. And rhubarb crumble for afters!

This evening I hear Will is in bed with a high temp and a head ache. Doesn't bode well. Holly says she feels a bit better than last time. All of Sam's and Ellie's families have been for PCR tests today. They reckon 1/80 people had covid in the U.K. last week. It's a lot.
