A lovely day today. I was up early and went for a short walk before breakfast. I watched the sun just crest the hill, and as it did so, bring light to the coastline. There was a ferry in the harbour, but otherwise it was quiet and peaceful. We all met
for breakfast and we're ready by 9 to walk to the port via the Frankish Castle and the old town, ready to catch a bus to the stunning village of Lefkas, which is high up in the hills, and a beautiful village.
Our walk was on an old Byzantine path, believed
to be about 1000 years old. We wound our way through different villages, including one in which the Netflix series of 'One Day' was being filmed. We were held up briefly by the crew! We stopped for a drink in a cafe garden, and then continued towards the coast.
The track was stony, but beautiful. There was a breeze, so it wasn't unbearably hot. The sky was a cloudless blue. We ended up in Prodromos a little resort bu the sea. Liz chose to swim. Most of us had a late lunch overlooking the little harbour. We caught
the bus back to PariKia and walked along the coast back to the hotel. The five of us then went for a swim in the hotel pool. I had a shower and went back for a wander in the old town. There is so much of it we haven't explored. Tiny, winding lanes, bouganvillea
everywhere , bright against the dazzling white of the walls.
There was a wedding going on in the Greek Orthodox Church, but we got a good look inside in the early evening, while a Greek Orthodox Priest was officiating.
We were
nearly all together for our last meal which Cecille booked outside looking over the fabulous sunset. It was chilly, but a jolly evening. We catch the ferry back to Raffina tomorrow early, then have a transfer to Athens Airport, thence back to Heathrow and
eventually Towcester. A long day of travelling!
